People are demanding more and more from the webpages they visit. Sure, they do want information. I like to think InDepthInfo provides that, at least in the topics we cover. But I think they are looking for gadgets, widgets, and what have you as well.
Fooling around, I decided to write a Php script that converts Fahrenheit to Celsius to Kelvin. It made me think that it would be interesting to build a whole website on Temperature and Thermometers. This fit in well because there are so many folios of pages in InDepthInfo that have temperatures on them. So I took the extra step of writing a little script that, placed in the code, will take the visitor to my temp conversion page.
Another aspect of dealing with temperatures is the internationalization of the webpages. Since many of my webpages have temperatures in Fahrenheit, I went through and made sure that Celsius is at least given a parenthetical mention.
InDepthInfo actually does get a fair amount of traffic from other English speaking countries. I think this may be because some of the writers I have engaged for short periods have hailed from England, and their styles and spellings might lead the search engines to favor them in UK, Canada, and Australia. It is important not to leave them in the dark when dealing with temps.
I believe giving the extra little bit of effort will ultimately be rewarded.
